How To Get Your Local Business On The First Page Of Google Places
Recently Google changed their algorithms in the way that search results are given to the searcher, and they are directing people to local results first, even if a town or city is not requested Google knows where the searcher is by their I.P. address of the computer that they are searching on. This even works when searching on a mobile device, using a system like sat navigation.
These results show up with a map showing where the business is and lists the services that the local company provides, this only works though if you claim your place with Google places.

How does this effect a national company? Well if you have a national company that has showrooms or shops in various locations then it could have a very positive effect on your business, as these could be regarded as local businesses, so you could have a local listing for each one of them.

You could also back up your network of local businesses by providing them with their own mini websites; they would all have to have different content on them though, to avoid duplicate content, as this is something that Google does not like.
